It's reasonable then to assume that the problem is in the electrical system and (as Fiat Ducato advises above) the prime suspect would be the relay that triggers step-retraction. But Marquis have had four goes at sorting this problem out, and as one might expect checking/replacing the relay to be the first approach to take, the fault may be
I did not see any method of bleeding the air, from the system. I made sure that the heater was switched on, and left the cap off at the expansion tank. I have no problems. I would (when engine cold), remove expansion tank cap - put heater on, and see what happens, when coolant is warm enough to open thermostat.
There was apparently a number of Ducato produced with dodgy connections to the starter motor where the positive was only resting, a current applied had the effect of a bimetallic spring but a reduced voltage meant that the starter didnt turn. Just worth checking this as well. hope this helps Phil
Apr 12, 2007. #7. Hi, I have had the exact same problem and traced it to the throttle position sensor. This is the unit on the back of the throttle which is 'fly by wire' as there is no throttle cable. This is quite common and the was finally detected by a Fiat dealer who, without charge, plugged in a diagnostic computer.
Adriatic island. Sep 17, 2017. #3. "On my camper van (1996 1.9TD) the previous owner fitted a relay under the bonnet and tied all the wires to the heater and breather hoses". He probably had an issue with the ignition lock contacts or the starter relay in the fuse box (if there was one). If the relay does what it is supposed to do I would make
