Step 3 – Set the spark plug gap. Using a wire-type spark plug gap tool, measure the gap on the new spark plugs. There should be a very slight drag on the gauge when passing a 0.040" (0.038"-0.043") gauge between the center and outer electrode. Bend the outside electrode with the tool to obtain proper gap. This is the way I do it. Use at your own discretion.You can also use doubled shrink tube, shrink tubing that has glue inside, even a brass "nail" if you like
Start at one end of the engine and remove only the first spark plug wire by pulling on the boot at the end of the wire until it pops off. Follow the wire with your hand to the other end and remove it from the distributor cap. Note that in some vehicles, this end of the spark plug wire is permanently attached to the distributor cap.
